Don Murray

On Friday 5 February 2016, Mater People joined to honour the retirement of Don Murray after almost 14 years of exceptional service at Mater.

Don commenced his role as Executive Director, Mater Private Hospitals in 2002, and the number of exceptional achievements reached under his leadership is testament to his passion, vision and drive as a leader.

In addition to his portfolio of hospitals achieving many exceptional outcomes, including an overwhelming number of ‘private hospital firsts’ and ‘innovation and service awards’, Don led the commissioning of the Mater Private CardioVascular Unit at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and significantly expanded rehabilitation services at our Annerley Road campus. Of all of Don’s achievements however, two of his most recent will no doubt form his lasting legacy at Mater—the opening of Mater Private Hospital Springfield and the official launch of Mater Centre for Neurosciences.

Both of these are a fitting tribute to a leader who thrived on developing talent, never gave up when challenged and embodied the vision and Mission of the Sisters of Mercy.

Sr Marcia Maranta

Sr Marcia Maranta has been a familiar face at Mater Private Hospital Redland for almost 14 years, providing compassionate care to patients and staff through her role as a pastoral carer.

On 23 March 2015, Sr Marcia officially retired at a special morning tea attended by staff, volunteers, and local community members, including Redland Mayor Karen Williams.

In addition to her role as Pastoral Carer, Sr Marcia was an avid fundraiser, through which she contributed to many projects to provide enhanced services to patients.

Sr Marcia has continued her ministry through the provision of pastoral care services at Prinz Willem Alexander Retirement Village.
